What is it? Foursquare is a location-based social networking website, software for mobile devices, and also a game. Users "check-in" at venues using a mobile website, text messaging or a device-specific application. They are then awarded points and sometimes "badges." Very few people I know that really on "foursquare". They say "it's not their thing" or what ever that means. Some shows interest and want to learn more. Some think its a waste of their precious time. Some ask, why? I say why not. Some say "do you really want to know where I go?" I say "no not you just interesting people." Also some ask, "Do I really want to know where you go?" I say, No, but my 54 followers probably wants to."

The new Verizon commercial puts Foursquare center stage.......
Verizon has released a new commercial centered around the hot geo- social app Foursquare.

The 30-second spot focuses on a young girl with her Motorola Droid walking through the streets, checking in on Foursquare (Foursquare). All the while, wireless tower after tower come out of the walls, streets and cars around her.

While Foursquare is never specifically mentioned in this commercial, there’s no doubt it’s the Android (Android) version of the popular geo- location app on display. Foursquare told us that they gave Verizon permission to use its logos and screenshots and showed them the storyboards for the commercial. It’s a major win for the NYC-based start up, as it gives the service more exposure and buzz.

We have a sneaking suspicion that this won’t be the last commercial to feature Foursquare. Until then though, here’s the Verizon commercial for your viewing pleasure:

Foursquare and your Business? Some business owners "what is it for me?" .. Well Foursquare aims to encourage people to explore their neighborhoods and then reward people for doing so. Also you can show off to your FB and twitter friends that you actually attended a concert, church etc. If you are trying to hide your whereabouts, it's OK because you can do that in foursquare.
