Content vs SEO or is it?

Can you build your internet presence and really conduct SEO (Search Engine Optimization) without good or any content? Some business owners want to increase their online presence in the search engines without a website. I will tell you as a SEO professional that is not a wise decision for many, many reasons. Here are a few:
·         People conduct research on a company many times before deciding to fork over their money.
·         Lack of a website can do serious harm to your online presence because it comes off as you're not serious about advertising.
·         Customers usually prefer to do business with established businesses rather than one's that don't keep up with what customers want – a website.
·         How can you sell something that people can't see; most people want to atleast see a sample or picture of something before they buy. Don't believe me? Why does Wal-Mart, Staples, Home Depot have a website and put pictures of their products on their site.
Where to start with your online presence?
Building your online presence can boost your sales big time. Even if you really like word of mouth advertising, are a brick and mortar business or have a limited budget it will be beneficial to you, your employees and your customers.
There are many places a business can start with building their online presence, such as:
·         Update the search engines with your current business contact info. Google bots generally don't prioritize sites or businesses that have conflicting info i.e. wrong number, wrong address, two different addresses (unless your business is located in two different places), etc.
·         Open up a social media page on for example, Facebook. Do not use your personal facebook profile to promote your business because it goes against the Facebook terms. "…You will not use your personal timeline primarily for your own commercial gain, and will use a Facebook Page for such purposes..." Found in Section 4 Registration and Account Security; Line 4
  • Build a website. If you're not sure how or have a limited budget there are free platforms out there to get started. A couple are: Wordpress or Go Daddy. Don't forget the content to explain what your business is about and what products and/or services you provide.
